Maine is a state wherein permanent residents still feel like tourists discovering new wonderful things every single day. The state is a perfect balance of green land and blue waters, sprinkled with colorful plants and wildlife, glowing under the shining rays of the smiling sun. The state is called the Pine Tree State because its land is largely composed of unspoiled wilderness, overflowing with lush foliages, diverse fauna, flowery meadows and rolling hills and mountains. State and national parks scatter across Maine, the most favorite of which is the Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island.
Maine is also popular for its tranquil coastline and mind-calming ocean scenery, a haven of people who want to momentarily escape from the stress of their jobs. Maine has more than 3,500 miles of coastline housing historical lighthouses, fishing communities, beach resorts, lodges, and other vacation establishments. Maine's fame as a summer capital in New England began as early as the first half of the 19th century. Luxurious summer resorts are found in the state such as Bar Harbor, Sorrento, and Islesboro. Political figures, Hollywood superstars, famous athletes and other noted celebrities frequent Maine during the summer season, some of them even have their own properties close to the state's main tourist attractions.
